    Portable Toilet Service Considerations

Nashville Portable Toilet Service Considerations for Construction Jobsites and Events

Why is my portable toilet service so horrible?

    My units are disgusting!!

This short article may help you manage your next project by considering things... that many times aren't.

Construction Sites. Help with better worker retention and less sick days.

Why have portable toilets on a construction site? If toilet facilities were NOT required by law, would they NOT be offered? Can't employees just "Hold it" until lunch time or after the days work has ended? Can't they just go pee in the bushes?

Do the general contractors want workers leaving the site to find a place for relief?

Answers to these questions may seem obvious, but let's dig deeper to consider a few points? Although the lowest paid workers may not seem as important as some of the higher paid workers, they generally use the same portable toilets on-site. Consider what happens if the portable units are not serviced or restocked as often as they should be. When the dirty business is done, how do they wipe if toilet paper is empty? When returning to work what are they touching? How are they exchanging money with catering at lunch? Are crew members seeming to get sick more than usual?

These examples are simple basic reasons why general contractors might consider having enough portable toilets and scheduled service for the entire crew. The crew will have better moral, more willingness to stay on the job and help from passing the Cold, Flu and some other things. If the facilities at your site(s) are managed better than another, it could help retain dependable employees at your site(s), simply because it shows you care.

Of course clean restroom facilities are NOT the only reason for higher crew moral, but they should be considered because they are part of the equation. Portable toilet operators get continual feedback from site workers. Many site workers complain to service technicians about more service being needed, but do not repeat the message to the site supervisor.  When the sanitation company rep speaks to the contractor, sometimes the contractor feels the discussion is nothing more than a "sales" call, and the cycle continues.

The maximum use per portable toilet is 10 workers on a 40 hr work week. This minimum standard may be law, but is the absolute minimum standard.  High Summer Heat generally requires 2 or more cleanings per week.  IMAGINE a single, 1 stall, non flushing toilet in an office building, (with no sink to wash hands) getting used by 10 construction workers on a 40 hr work week for 8 months.  Would it remain clean and presentable for your crew if cleaned and stocked only once per week? How will this non-flushing toilet look on day 6 in summer heat with high humidity?

The above example explains why some general contractors and event coordinators prefer additional cleaning of all portable toilets on-site. Recently the VannGo team provided 75 toilets with sinks to Cianbro Construction with daily cleaning 7 days per week for 10 months. The project had over 600 people with limited turnover. Every single day the workers would thank the VannGo team for keeping the facilities clean and fully stocked. We serviced the units every day because Cianbro realized the importance of clean facilities for their valuable team.
